Can you go home during military training?

Unless you have a verified family emergency (death or serious injury/illness of an immediate family member), you’re not allowed to take leave during basic training. If you joined the Navy or Air Force, you’re not usually allowed to take leave until you finish your military job training.

Enlisted Airmen have no visitation during Basic Military Training with the exception of graduation week. Basic trainees are allowed visitors on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday of that week only. Families must plan graduation visits with care, as on-base access is subject to security restrictions.

These requirements may also impact the scheduling of annual leave. Annual Leave: Active duty Soldiers earn 2.5 days of annual (chargeable) leave for each month of service, for a total of 30 days per year. Currently, Soldiers can bank up to 60 days of leave at the end of the fiscal year.

Reserve (Part-Time)

The Reserve was created to provide and maintain trained units at home while active-duty service members are deployed.

Even if you are a local family member, You won’t be able to visit your soldier while they are at Basic Training.

The average military deployment is typically Between six and 12 months Long. However, deployment lengths vary greatly from branch to branch, are situational and depend on several factors specific to each individual service member.

The Army offers the highest base pay, while the Air Force offers more opportunities for special pay. So, it really depends on what you’re looking for in a military career. If you want to make the most money possible, then the Army is probably the best branch for you.

There are no cell phones allowed in Basic Training. This is a consistent rule for all of the military branches: Do not expect your service member to be able to call you, text you, or receive your messages when they are in Basic Training. The Marine Corps does not allow any cell phone access until after graduation.

In basic training, you take group showers. There’s no way out of communal showers. They’re required. Everyone in your barracks will enter the shower room assigned to your barracks when commanded.

The Army offers a program allowing people to join with up to four of their friends. The buddy enlistment option guarantees the recruits will attend basic combat and advance individual training together and then be assigned at the same first duty station after graduation.
